Can't get sound from my TV to my Sony HT-CT80 soundbar.

I'm using a Sony Bravia TV (model KDL-40s4100) and trying to connect a HT-CT80. Right now I'm only getting sound from the TV itself.

I can't get it to play from the speaker from my DirectTV, Blu-ray, or the Xbox. I'm using the analog jack because I don't think the optical jack works while using an HDMI input. I'm not sure if it's something like my TV is too old to work with this soundbar or if I have some settings wrong or something.

Thanks!

Solution
If I have a penny for everyone who ask this question.

Answer (again): TVs typically do not pass thru audio information to a connected sound bar. Meaning whatever external player you connect to the TV goes to the TV speaker and that's it. Don't ask me why not, TV vendors just don't do this. For this reason sound bars are very poor purchases in general and inflexible. They serve specific purposes but again, not flexible. I have no immediately, EASY solution for you.

The proper way to do this and for flexibility purpose is to purchase a receiver (whether stereo or surround is up to you), and everything should work with maximum flexibility.
