can't program new xfinity remote

our "old" cable tv remote worked fine. we upgraded to xfinity with a new xfinity remote. the technician could't program the new xfinity remote to access the tv/ source option because we couldn't change the channel on our philips tv to (I think) channel 3 because we didn't have the original philips remote.. We got a philips remote on e-bay, it works, except of course it won't change the channels on the philps tv? it is the correct model number philips remote for our philips tv

Any ideas how to change to channel 3, if indeed that is the issue?

Heck if I know why, but the buttons on the Philips TV do not change the channel either??????????
