Capturing video from Sony HDR-HC9 to laptop

I am looking for a way to capture video from my camcorder tapes to my laptop with no i.link port. My Toshiba Satellite laptop has HDMI, USB, ethernet, serial port and memory card reader slot (approx 24 or 25mm wide). Is there any kind of adapter that you can suggest that will allow me to get my Sony HDR-HC9 camcorder and my computer communicating?

To the best of my knowledge, the USB downloads the memory card images (can't do video to the memory card, only stills). The i.link cable (firewire) is the only way to download video from the tape cassettes, unless there is some setting or trick that I am not aware of.
