CD Drive Not Working

Toshiba Satellite R630 - CD Drive not reading any discs! Have cleaned the drive head as well. Driver is also properly installed. What more should I do to ensure it reads discs?

Well it is going to depend on if it is not reading any disks, or just not reading some disks.

If it is not reading any at all, then you may well need a new drive.

If it is not reading just some, then you need to figure out what kind are not being read. Is it only ones that have scratches? Is it only ones that were recorded, versus ones that are purchased with the info on them.

Should it be ones that are recorded on (burned) are the only ones it isn't reading, then there could be a problem with the those disks, or an error with the drive. You would need to check a few more burned disks and determine if it is only specific ones.

If BIOS doesn't see it (and explorer doesn't show a driver letter) then that puppy is dead.

If you installed something like daemontools, this can also kill it
