Not sure about DVDR discs. But for CDR, there is a program called <A HREF="http
/w510.tm.odessa.ua/soft/cdr_atip" target="_new">CD-R ATIP Reader</A> which detects and shows the manufacturer's name.
You see, every CDR has some info on the disc itself which is called ATIP (Absolute Time In Pre-groove). Without this info the CDR cannot be used by a burner. The ATIP contains such info as the capacity of CDR, the manufacturer, the type of CDR, supported writing speeds, etc.
