changing resolution screen on monitor

Quick question, I have a laptop plugged in via HDMI cable to a 1920 x 1080 monitor. The laptops max resolution as far as I know is 1366 x 768. Can I increase the resolution on to 1080 on my monitor even with a 1366 laptop?

It depends on the graphics subsystem in the laptop. Does it show 1920x1080 as an available resolution for the external device?

Nope, I checked and the limit is 1366
