Charging my phone

My iPhone charger outputs 5v at 1000mA I was just wondering if using a charger with an output of 4.2v at 400mA would ruin the battery? I was hoping to use my iPhone overnight as an alarm clock but I know it would drain the battery not having it on charge, but then using the official charger wuld overcharge the phone.

No. 4.2V 400mA won't deliver enough power to charge it up. And no again. The genuine charger will not overcharge your battery. Use the genuine battery charger. If yours is broken, buy a new adapter.
