Which cheap laptop for ubuntu usage, and mainly using programming and word processing applications?

I've been looking at some of the lenovo thinkpad series (t420 etc.) but was wondering if there are any other brands or specific models that might suit my requirements. I've been using an original C720 chromebook model with ubuntu installed but I'm finding running tor, chrome and other browsers with 5> tabs can begin to slow down the laptop quite significantly. Budget is anywhere from around $300-500 (a little bit more if it makes a big difference).

Lenovo Flex 2 series are good ones and cheap. they have IPS touch monitors FHD as well for cheap.

I wouldpick the 14 or 15 inch one.

I've just looked the Flex 2 on the lenovo shop, looks to be almost double my budget :( I'm in Australia sorry I didn't mention, is this the model you were suggesting? http://shopap.lenovo.com/au/en/laptops/lenovo/flex-series/flex-2-14/
