[citation][nom]back_by_demand[/nom]This only the beginning, maybe we should run a website deadpool. Pick 10 websites of your choice that are not already banned that China will ban within the next year?[/citation]

Anything fun or interesting and it's pretty much gone.

wow..... they are building a wall around china... wait, they have already done it in the past, that must be not enough for them....

Curiosity spawns discovery and soon with all but only the government propaganda available, the new generation of Chinese will loose any advantage they have in sciences/engineering/invention etc etc....

sad....... :(

For any young chinese reading this forum (unless tom's is blocked as well) - we are fast approaching 2 internets -
1. the chinese internet and
2. THE REST OF THE WORLD internet

at the moment china is curtailing access to many sites outside its borders, how long before before they start curtailing access to chinese websites and servers from outside china

This only means China has a website similar to IMDB. The "REST OF THE WORLD" never heard of the Chinese equivalent of Facebook, YouTube and Twitter so they think internet is somehow different in China.

This remind of the story of that President Reagan didn't know playgrounds exist in the Soviet Union because he thought all Commies do for fun is marching and shout slogan.

Instead of threatening China in terms of Google pulling out of the nation, why don't we broadcast free internet into the country? Give them what they want, around China's firewalls. That could be fun!

So China has weapons of mass destruction? Then why the hell is US going after Iraq and other mid east nations if that's the case?

I thought the whole point of gathering the whole United Nations was to judge if it was neccessary to rage war in the mid east based on the assumption of WOMDestruction. If China has 200 nukes then what the hell?

2.5 million troops doesn't mean jack when the US has 192 nukes on a single ballistic missle sub (24 trident missles with 8 warheads each)... Troops don't mean anything when it comes to nuclear war. China needs to chill out and let their people live... they can only repress them for so long before there is some kind of major incident.

The US has a very confused relationship with China.

President Bush famously stated that we don't and won't do business with Cuba because they are a communist country.

Excuse me?? Isn't that what China is?? And we do business with China?? Is it because they call their Dictator a President instead of a Dictator?

It also seems that they are using the internet to steal technology and know-how from the rest of the world to further their imperial ambitions and so far, with the exception of Google right now, we have been sitting back and letting them get away with it.

So no real surprise here.

[citation][nom]back_by_demand[/nom]Good idea, let's deliberately piss off a nation with a standing army of 2.5 million troops, approx 200 nuclear weapons, previous form for invading Tibet and attacking India, no regard for human rights, hatred for the capitalist West and leadership with no sense of humour, dress sense or patience.Let me know how that works out, i'll be in the garden digging a bunker.[/citation]

We have enough nuclear warheads to remove everything from the face of the planet. And try and get soldier on the other side of the Altantic without the CIA knowing it.

No need for a military war, just a good old all out economic war. Drive them toward mass hunger and ultimately, civil war.

[citation][nom]back_by_demand[/nom]Economic war eh? They have a billion consumers and just about everything you buy is manufactured there and they don't do a lot of importing. Anything worth buying from us isn't advertised over there and even if it is they get ripped off or pirated with no fear of reprisal. Don't get into an economic war because you would lose.[/citation]
a war against china would speel doom for the US, not only are they the worlds LARGEST military force (MUCH MUCH larger than the US), economically they would destroy the US, its insane how narrow sighted most US are!

One problem. China has very limited natural resources. Otherwise, they would not have needed western countries to start outsourcing manufacturing jobs to them for them to have an explosion of economic growth. If the U.S. and most other countries agreed on a trade embargo with China, they would indeed be screwed. They are not yet self-sustaining and will not be for quite some time, otherwise the average pay and living costs there would be comparable to the U.S., rather than how low they are now. Their newly-founded middle class is only there because it costs less to hire them to make things than to hire low-income workers in the U.S.

What this is really beginning to look like, I think, is a Neo-North-Korea. It's like North Korea but with all the added technological advances made since the 1970's, and a seemingly endless supply of military potential.

It really makes sense. Once said, China a sleeping giant, one day will rise up and be a world power. US won't be able to police around anymore. It's all been prophesied. Be aware.

what the fuck is PEI CHEN talking about? yes, china has equivalents (also known as rip-offs) of those sites, but why block the foreign sites? is it because chinese can't compete on a level playing field? same as avatar being withdrawn from cinemas in china - because they know their own fucking shit movies can't compete and they don't want the money going into foreign coffers. This is the only reason all of those sites are blocked; nothing to do with politics and all to do with money.
