China Restricting People From Registering Domains

Maybe, just maybe this might be China's attempt to fight more than just porn.

Forcing Chinese domains to be legally documented and registered will create a lot of traceable paper trails and at the same time, traceable digital trails.

This would make it easier to shut down sites that deliberately push Malware and other nasty parasitic Rogue Software within China and any of their territories.

[citation][nom]sicpric[/nom]What will they ban/restrict next?I say bomb 'em![/citation]

They'll ban our beloved chinese sellers on ebay from making a bit more than ends meat, think of how screwed we'd be if we were forced to buy green laser pointers for example for 20 bucks each instead of 5 just because we have to deal with a middleman ON EBAY!!!!!

It's probably a response to most .cn domains being blacklisted everywhere due to years of useless garbage from them.

Kind of sucks for Chinese. Alot of small companies start off with an idea, and an internet site. Considering how we are moving more and more towards technology it seems like the worlds fastest growing economy just shot itself in the foot.

They don't like what some people have to say, so they censor them.

You don't like what they say, so you want to blow them up.

Not saying censorship is right, but your solution isn't exactly better. At least try to be better than the people you criticize.

it's the same as gun control, put everything on a list because you want them to be in the right hands, when things gets out of control and people would actually use them against the government, take them away one by one from their homes.

Aren't you all taking this out of proportion? This simply means instead of anyone ANONYMOUSLY creating a domain you need to "fill out papers".
Whats the difference, really? (apart from a bit of extra time)
Saves all the .cn from being used as spammers etc.
Surprised no one else thought of it first

It's a problem because for example you start a blog or a news site and maybe the government doesn't like an article or users post comments critical of the government... so it makes it easier to arrest you and send you to jail.

At least this insane requirment from the china land can make some sense as to why they are doing this but still. Its giving the chinese people less and less freedoms...And Im all about freedoms.

All my friends here who can read English use VPN for twitter\youtube, sometimes google. At least I can check wikipedia and toms at any time. The thing is, we don't care what the government do, coz they never listen to you directly, and you just can't expect them to be perfect, given we are a young country with only 60 years. Yet they know your concerns, and they are making effort to meet the requirements of the most people(they think) for it's the only way to keep their government. Instead of less and less freedoms, our country is becoming more and more international, if you'r interested in the history of China, you may find how the government treat our people inhumanly ever since the found of our nation until 10 years ago.

As long as the people of China have access to the Web, then they have access to information and it is this information that drives democracy and social revolution. I don't see this as be a violation of citizens rights.

Besides porn and some of the above mentioned material, it may also be an attempt to shut down some of these scam sites. Google "uggs for cheap" and scroll down the page and notice all of the URLs that have been eliminated. There is a big problem with scum in China setting-up bogus sites. My daughter was going to order some and I noticed that something was not right...the site has since been eliminated. So, if the Chinese government has to do something like this to protect global consumers then I am all for it. Now if only the Nigerian government would take some control of its scam factories.

and this affects me how ??

seriously tom's im sick of see articles about china , i hgihly doubt any american's or europeans are applying for china's domain name, and it's not like the commie bastards could stop me from getting a domian registered to me here or in europe. it's just mopre medai BS to point and say "hey look at how evil those chinese are!" yeah we all know chinese are commie bastards not like it is any thing new. i could care less what the chinese do , it doesn't afect me , if thier citizens want to allow thier goverment to screw them over , then #removed inappropriate comment#
