I have been researching laptops around £500-£600, for light gaming, statistical modelling.

I have been looking at PC Specialist, for £589 I can get the following:
i5 4210M
8GB RAM
500GB HDD
GT 840m (GDDR 3)
1366x768 screen (The upgrade to 1080p comes with a GTX850m but it costs £98)

What I'd like to know is: Is there an AMD equivalent spec which will perform similarly since AMD is usually cheaper. (I'm not sure at this price point AMD would give me better performance)

Thanks

Doing some quick searches it looks like you would need a minimum of a a10-5750m to get similar but slightly worse performance. New prices for that appears to be slightly lower, at least converting USD to GBP.

I personally would stick with the gt 840m as nivida has generally better drivers support for games than amd. As for the stats modelling, I have no idea which cpu is better as I am not in that field.
