Chromebook or Budget Laptop?

Hello,

I'm buying my mum a computer as her ancient mac has given out. She really only uses it for web browsing and emails and maybe some occasional word processing. I have a budget of £250 and am wondering whether to get her a budget laptop or a Chromebook.

Any help would be appreciated.

A chromebox would be cheaper is you already have a monitor + keyboard + mouse.

A chromebook would be your better choice since it has a better battery life, no fans in it in case she wants to use it on a dusty surface like a blanket. And if you are willing to, there is always the option to intall linux in it.
