Cingular sent me a 'possibly reconditioned' replacement
Motorola Model V400 GSM, cellphone and my original
cellphone, for which I paid $200.00, will not be returned.

I had a $50.00 rebate, but after mailing the rebate
information in, the day I purchased the telephone,
back in May of 2004, and repeatedly calling to
find out what happened to the rebate, I never
received Cingular's $50.00 promised rebate.

They do not tell you "possibly reconditioned". Uh huh. Ain't gonna happen.
They tell you it is a manufacturer refurbished handset. Which EVERY wireless
provider does.

Then you didn't follow the directions on the rebate form. Did you perchance
call the number that was given to you on the rebate form?

That's common practice in consumer electronics.

I'm sure this can be worked out. File a complaint with the BBB if necessary.

Technicially, *if* you received your own phone back, wouldn't it be
'reconditioned'. If not, I would assume they didn't do anything other
than send it back to you, with no repair work or technical expertise
involved.

Is it being sent a PO Box or similar? Most rebates will be honored if
the recipient receives mail at a PO Box. It IS definitely
discriminating to consumers in small town without mail delivery [to
thier exact location of residence], as physical addresses may be marked
'undeliverable'.

I live in New York City.
I get all my mail.
I always leave a gift for my mailman,
this time of year, as do other residents of
the building I reside in, so he brings my mail
right to my door, if the mailbox is stuffed.

I mailed the rebate information out the same day,
I called Cingular, they switched me to their rebate department.
I gave them the information, they always said they didn't get the form.
I mailed it from the Post Office itself.

I finally gave up on getting my $50.00 rebate.

Cingular doesn't have a "rebate" department. Rebates are outsourced to
YoungAmerica in Mineappolis,MN. As are 99% of every other rebate offer in
the USA.

If you didn't fill out the forms completely, send in the box ends, as well
as copies of your reciepts, you won't get it either.

Then, and with all due respect, you have only yourself to blame.

When you call up and ask about the $50.00 rebate, they switch to you
to some place else.

The bottom line is, I never received the $50.00 rebate promised
at the time I purchased the telephone.
I filled out the boxes correctly.
What was there to get incorrect?
It h ad my return address.
No, Cingular fell down on that one also.

The company that handles the rebates for them.

Lots. Not including the UPC code, sending it to the wrong address, the
address being illegible...

No, Cingular doesn't do the rebates. If it's been over a year, you're
really SOL, but what did the rebate center say?

When I worked retail cellular, what would happen is the carrier would
notate your account. You call the rebate center. If the rebate center
wouldn't help, call the carrier back, and 99% of the time, the carrier
would comp you the rebate in the form of a billing credit.

I included the UPC code and it filled out at the Cingular Authorized
Dealer,
before I left and was mailed out.
Never received the Cingular offered $50.00 rebate. Never.

It hasn't been over a year, I bought the cellphone from a
Cingular Authorized Dealer, in May.
But Idid call Cingular's 611 number,
repeatedly asking about the $50.00 rebate offered
by Cingular for months.
I finally gave up, after months of trying.

Read your rebate form. You did keep a copy, didn't you?
Mine clearly gives a toll-free phone number and a web site for checking the
status of rebates. The 611 number is not the appropriate number for
questions regarding the rebate.

Pay attention to details and you'll have better success.

Don't blame Cingular....you know it's not unheard of for the post office to
lose mail.
