Classic NES Controller for PC?

I want to buy a controller for my NES emulator that is as close to the real
thing as possible. Can anybody tell me what is the make of NES-style
controller for PC that comes as close as possible to the real thing?

You can actually buy a NES controller than has been USB 'upgraded'.
They modify old NES Pads, NES Advantages, etc. Price isn't too bad
either.

$26 is bad. $13 seems more reasonable. There has to be somewhere on the web
that shows how to do the mod.

They will sell you the chip for $17 with instructions on how to do it
yourself. I think $26 is fairly reasonable. You get the controller and
they do all the work. Just depends on how much your time is worth.

Here's a project idea. Take a digital usb joypad or joystick with plenty of
buttons. Rip out the guts and throw it in a black project box from radio
shack. Then attach various connectors to some of the buttons on the PCB. You
could have NES input, Genesis/Vectrex/Atari/c64 input, etc
That would rock. Now to find a cheap usb game controller to kill...

People have been doing that for years. Joysticks (for the most part)
are pretty simple devices. Very easy to hack/adapt digital joysticks
especially.
