Click of Death? Should I migrate to a new HDD?

My laptop makes a clicking sound from somewhere around where the HDD is located. It makes this sound when/if I press onto it (by placing my palm onto it while typing) or open/close my screen. There is no sound when it is shut down so I know that it is not a mechanical issue. Is it the dreaded Click of Death? How should I migrate my OS and my data to a new HDD in case it is?

If you've identified that it's indeed the HDD that is causing the clicking sound then yes you should consider replacing the HDD already. If you're planning on cloning your HDD to the new one, here;s one that I can suggest that is for free.

Do also consider upgrading to a SSD which doesn't use any mechanical parts which can eliminate this kind of issue in the future.
