Clicking noise from laptop wont turn on

Hello,
my acer laptop wont turn on it sounds like its clicking from near the power supply i have purchased a new power supply and battery and still no joy...what else can i try, a techie told me it was spiking may be the motherboard but it did turn on until the old battery died now nothing

The click sounds are characteristic of damaged harddrives. The HDD may be dead but there is some chance some data may be salvaged from it.

Thanks I will look in to replacing the hard drive and see if I get any joy
