Hi, guys. Sorry, I'm a newbie, so cloning looks pretty difficult to me. I have a 500GB HDD with just a single partition, that is C drive. I've gotten a 256GB SSD that I want to replace the HDD.

I want to clone the HDD to SSD, but just want to partition SSD into 2 drives, the primary C drive and another drive for storage.

So how can I clone the HDD, which is made up of a single C drive, into an SSD that's going to be partitioned into 2?

Solution
The steps will vary depending on the tool that you use but they follow a basic formula.
Select the drive you wish to clone (the HDD in this case)
Select the drive you wish to clone the drive to (the SSD in this case)
You will most likely be asked how you want to adjust the partition size since there is a difference in capacities in your case.
And that's it. The software will do its thing and let you know when done.

Use the cloning tool supplied by the SSD manufacturer. Having said that, there are plenty of 3rd party cloning tools. You will also need partioning software.
Just bear in mind, that if your hard drive is currently at capactiy, there is no way you can clone 500Gb onto a 250Gb SSD. You will have to clear it first.

Thank you for your answer. I know a couple of third-party cloning tools. But I'm really not sure about partitioning software. Can you please guide me on the steps I would need to perform for cloning? And no, my HDD is not full. Only about 60 GB is used on HDD. And my SSD is 256GB.
