codec problem

hi

I transferred shows off tivo to pc and burned copy on dvd rw. I can see
from dvd disk on computer but when I take it on lap top the picture is not
normal and is more vertical. Is this a codec issue? I have win xp pro on
laptop. I tried tivo site for codec but all they have is one you pay for em.
Any one know of free one that i can dl?

nm my windows media player was old . updated to 10 and it s working now.
