Compaq laptop boots up asks for password then goes blank

I'm using a compaq CQ58 laptop. My problem is that it boots up fine. Asks for my password as normal then on the screen when the windows menu should be its blank. All thats there is a magnifier to allow me to make my screen bigger 100% 200% etc. task manager loads up fine but once again back to a black screen. Any help advice would be great.

Problem solved, task manager run msconfig, restarted in safe mode the restored, thanks anyway
