Compaq Presario CQ62 Laptop Keyboard Locked

My laptop’s keyboard has locked up for an unknown reason. The touchpad still works and an external keyboard works when plugged in.
I might think it needs replacing, but when my computer ran out of battery and I plugged it in and restarted it, when it asked me during the system boot if I wanted to continue with a normal setup, when I pressed “Enter” on the non-responding keyboard, my computer responded to it and continued booting.
Anybody know what the issue could be?

see if the keyboard works in safemode & if does then do a system restore to before this problem started?
