Solved! Component dvd output to composite tv input

I have a component output dvd player and a composite input television. Can I use composite cables and just connect the yellow dvd output to the yellow tv input , then the red and white audio

Yes. You don't have to use the component video connection. You would need an audio connection (red and white) anyway.
