Hi!
My laptop doesnt start anymore, its a compaq cq50. ive tried booting from a vista isnstallation disc, but all i get is a black screen. the same thing happens without the disc inserted, obviously. =)
i get the first boot screen, the one that says "compaq", and i can access BIOS. but thats all. i run windows 7 on this computer btw.

does anyone know, what the problem could be? i thought that if i could run an os installation disc, i would atleast know that the problem wasnt hardware realated. but since it didnt work, im feeling a bit down hearted.

please help me! it would be very much appreciated.

thanks in advance

Look in the BIOS and see if the hard drive is present and correct.

everything works fine in BIOS, its when i exit BIOS and try to startup windows that the black screen appears. its been a few years since ive had these kind of computer problems, and i realized that i dont know what to do when i am, for example in BIOS... i eally dont wanna format my drives, since they contain a lot of work that i dont wanna lose.

ive tried to open windows in safe mode, but i get the same screen as with a normal boot..

are there any possible sollutions?

thanks alot!

Does this happen with you plugged into the wall? Or is it just when you're running on battery? Multipule things to try on this:

1. Remove and reinsert battery.

2. Remove and reinsert HDD, and RAM.

3. Go into BIOS and check whats set to boot 1st, and 2nd. Make sure your BIOS has the HDD booting as either first or 2nd. Try rearranging them accordingly.

Also, what have you done recently with your PC? Anything to encourage this, or did this just happen randomly? Sounds to me like some sort of Hard disk issue though, so make sure your hard drive LED light is flashing and you can audibly hear the drive at work.

Boot off your OS disc. Use the R option to get into the repair console. The password is blank by default, so just hit enter. At the command line type fixboot. That will repair your boot files. Then restart.
