Computer speaker volume fading in and out

I've had the Dell A525 speakers for a few years now and have never had any problems with them. Now the volume will suddenly fade really low, then come back up again. There is also background noise that sounds like someone blowing in a microphone. I have tried unpluging them and moving the volume slider back and forth, but to no avail. Are my speakers broken or is it something else?

maybe its time you buy much better speakers.

Yeah I actually have. Gigaworks T20's.
