Computer to Stereo ideas...

Hi community,

I have a rather new computer and a rather old receiver. I live a ways from radio antenae, but I enjoy listening to my outdoor speakers, who run through my receiver. I would like some suggestions for the best way to hook my modern computer to my old receiver so I can stream...

So my computer is running with a Asus ROG Hero Alpha board with a ROG Strix 1080 for outputs. I'm currently using both HDMI's on the 1080 for the monitor and the Vive. My audio output on the Hero Alpha currently powers the sound setup for the PC so it not available...

Does anyone have any ideas for getting sound to my older, but IMO still pretty good receiver. It is a JVC RX 660v. It's old, but crystal clear plays music well (kinda it's job right! lol)

well it'll something out into line in on the amp. The something will come from the audio jacks on the board, and preferably at line level and not at headphone level.

You would need something like *THIS* if you're using the green 3.5mm audio out from the motherboard. It allows you to split that signal to your PC sound set up and the Receiver. You would also need THIS to convert to an RCA input for the Receiver. You would also need an adapter to convert the output to RCA in order to hookup to the Receiver. *THIS* would do it. You'd plug the male jack of the first adapter into your motherboard. You would then connect your existing 3.5mm connection to your PC speakers on one output of the splitter, and connect the 2nd adapter to the other output in order to convert to RCA for the Receiver.

I dug out my old soundblaster audigy2 z5... Could I use it for sound?

You're getting ahead of yourself.
What Windows version do you have? Are there official drivers for that Audigy 2 that support your version of Windows?
What is wrong with using your onboard audio?

You're right... I did get ahead of myself...

My sound drivers are great on the MB.. so what I did was buy a 25 foot 3.5 to rca cable... I also bought a male to female 3.5 splitter, so I can split the signal from the MB that will go to my surround sound for the computer and the stereo.

On another note, I used the HDMI from the MB to connect to TV to a 25 foot HDMI cable I had so we can not stream 4k movies on the tv as well... Good times... The only problem is that I cannot connect the TV to the stereo. So unless the audio syncs with the video, I won't have surround sound on videos...

run the 25ft hdmi to near to the TV, then extract the audio using that device, and take that hdmi output to the TV.

Well that is a nifty little box... I'll give it a try if my rca split cord does not work...
