Confused need help.

Ok i have been searching for the correct gaming headset and i'v settled on the steel series siberia, but i seen that it comes with a 7.1 usb sound card i know my motherboard supports 7.1 so why would i need this? So my real question is does that sound card enable 7.1 or can i just pug it into my audio jacks in the back and get the 7.1 surround sound.
