Philips Hue, those smart lights that change color and can switch on automatically, is supporting Google Home at launch. With the two devices, you can turn lights on and off with your voice, smartphone app or program them on a schedule. You can also change the hue of the light to suit your mood or the media you’re watching.
If you want to connect Philips Hue to Google Home fast, this is how you do it.
Connect Philips Hue to Google Home
As far as I can tell, Google Home will work out of the box with the Philips Hue Bridge. If that is the case, it should be simple to connect Philips Hue to Google Home.
1. Insert the smart lights into the fixture and turn them on.
2. Connect your Philips Hue Bridge to the mains and to your router with the Ethernet cable. Once all lights are lit on the Bridge, you’re ready to go.
3. Download the Hue app onto your Android smartphone.
4. Make sure your smartphone is connected to your Wi-Fi network and open the app. The app will search for the Bridge.
5. Follow the Hue setup wizard to pair the lights with the Bridge.
6. Pair the Bridge with Google Home by tapping ‘Pair Bridge’ at the bottom of the screen.
7. Name your connection and tap ‘Create home’. Follow the wizard to set up your lights as you like them.
8. Download the Google Home app if you haven’t already.
9. Tap Settings and Home.
10. Select the Hue Bridge from the list of devices.
11. Tap ‘Pair’ in the app and the round button on your Hue Bridge to pair.
12. Tap ‘Done’ when paired.
As Google Home is a new and evolving product, these instructions may change. However, the basic premise should remain very similar throughout the early life of Google Home.
