I have a sonykdl50w829b tv and a sony s master sorround sound systrm. The tv has optical audio but the sorround sound/dvd player doesnt. TV has hdmi rca but the ss only has hdmi out (dvd only). The tv has blue, green, yellow input sockets, dvd doesnt have anything like that. I have tried everything but cant get the ss to work with the tv (unless i am playing a dvd). Any ideas? Im loathed to waste moremoney on adaptors that dont work and its a good system so dont want to replace it.

Sorry should have said. Sorround sound is sony hcd-dz230

I use a scart cable to connect the dvd to the tv. The audio works then but only through the dvd player. Doesnt work the other way round, if that makes sense?

Neither. I dont actually have the antenna plugged in at all at the moment (just moved house and need a longer cord plus dont watch much freeview). What i am using is apps on my smart tv like netflix

Is the scart connected to tv, or surround system?

Yeah. Pretty keen to get it sorted. Plus, youre helping me so figured it would be easier if i provided prmopt responses.

The DMPort would allow you to play sound on the system from an external source, but I wasn't able to find a suitable adapter (3.5 mm to DMPort).
There are some DMport docks http://asset2.cbsistatic.com/cnwk.1d/sc/33539820-2-440-DT3.jpg, but they don't help in our case.
See if you can find something suitable. Or you can open a new thread.

No drama. Thanks heaps for your help. Much appreciated

You can use the front 3.5mm calibration mic input for an audio source.
Just need a twin phono to 3.5mm cable.

Cable Mountain 1m Gold Plated 3.5mm Jack to 2x Phono Plugs Cable https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B002IRRISK/ref=cm_sw_r_em_awd_C.FTwbKJ7N09K
It'll look a little untidy with a cable on the front of the player but will work , is cheap & easy

I'm also seeing that the scart on your DVD is full pinned & 2 way.
If you buy a HDMI cable & connect the player to the TV via HDMI you can use the scart on the rear as an audio input from the TV (selectable by selecting TV on the DVD remote)

You just need a fully pinned 2 way scart to rca like this.

1.5m Metre Scart to 3 x RCA Triple Phono AV Audio Video Lead Cable https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B008QBWAYO/ref=cm_sw_r_em_awd_fcGTwbVNCV6Z6

Set the switch to out & you'll be good

Looking now & your TV does not have any phono rca outs

It has
Output via 3.5mm headphone jack.

To do the 2 options above you want

Option 1 via front calibration mic input

3.5mm Male Stereo JACK to JACK Audio Cable Gold 5m Lead https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B000Q6LT26/ref=cm_sw_r_em_awd_TnGTwb78RSRSS

Option 2 - connecting via HDMI to TV

A cheap HDMI cable

Scart to SVHS & 3 x RCA Phono TV Adaptor Converter Box https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B000Q8JB1A/ref=cm_sw_r_em_awd_KCGTwb1X8JG2Q

Cable Mountain 1m Gold Plated 3.5mm Jack to 2x Phono Plugs Cable https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B002IRRISK/ref=cm_sw_r_em_awd_mDGTwb5AH2JVW

Option 1 cheap & incredibly easy
Option 2 will keep all the cables at the rear of the unit.
