Hello,id like to know how to connect my laptop to a vga monitor. is it as simple as plugging in the cord? prob is the screens junk on the laptop, hence why i need to know .

Solution
If your laptop has a port, then you just plug it in. Some older laptops have to be switched to run the attached screen or the external monitor. Usually one of the function keys does this. I had an old Dell that worked this way.

My newer laptop works differently, more like a modern desktop video card. It gives me the options to run both monitors at the same time, expand the desktop across both monitors, duplicate the desktop on both monitors, etc.

If the laptop was made in the last 5 years, you just right click the desktop and go to your display settings. One of those menus allows you to select which displays to use and set resolutions.
