Connecting new LG 65UH650v with older Philips HTS9800w Home Theater system

Hi all.

We have just bought a new smart TV from LG, a 65UH650v.

We also have an older Home Theater system, a Philips HTs9800w from about 2007.
I have tried to connect the theater system with our new TV through HMDI, using an arc cable, so I can watch movies in surround sound, using the Home Theater system.

When watching dvds, there aren't any issues and the sound is ok, but when changing the sound output on my TV to hdmi arc and external loud speakers, there is no sound...

I have tried changing source on the home theater system to TV, AUX and changing the settings also to HDMI arc. Nothing happens...

Does any of you have any suggestions to what is wrong? I have just bought the hdmi arc cables, so it shouldnt be that, but my guess is either that the home theater system is too old, or that I need to connect the TV with the theater system in another way?

HDMI-ARC requires both the TV and HTS to support it. I don't think the HTS does.
It does have a coax digital audio input. The TV has optical audio output so you need convert that to coax.

Check the TV manual on how to use the coax output. You may have to turn it on and turn the TV speakers off in the TV menu.
