Connecting to Epson projector without VGA cable

I do not have a VGA port. So, I used a HDMI to VGA cable. I connect to a Epson projector (EB-X12) and it didn't work! What should I do? Should I 'Source-search' or what? Does it needs any software or setup?

Can you please state what the GPU's make and model is on your HTPC/system? Adding the make and model(or link) of the adapter cable would also help.
