Connecting to Laptop Through IR. Works on Palm

Good Day All,

I am trying to create a "Syncing Station" where users can go up to a PC and
connect through infared to get network access for their network enabled
apps. I setup Mocha PPP as a PPP server and Palms connect with no problem.
When I try to do the same with a Pocket PC, it says it cannot connect. The
only difference I see is that the pocket pc requires you to enter a
telephone number and username/password. Could this be the issue? I have put
0 for the phone number and nothing for the username/password.

Any help would be appreciated!

don't have an answer, but am curious... could you post some additional
details such as what connection method (irda modem or native ir) and if
you are running dhcp, etc, etc. the more info the better.

Can't you run ActiveSync instead and just set it to connect as Guest?

Hi Beverly,

Thanks for the help. I have tried IRDA Modem, Native IRDA, and IRCOM2K.

One thing I found out, I loaded a program that monitors the IR of the Pocket
PC and it says it is in use when I bring it near an Infrared port. Could it
be that it is trying to connect some other way without me "Dialing Up"?

yes... to an ir "exchange" rather than a network connection... pretty
sure the ppc is going to have to "drive" the connection process into a
network connection, probably through a dial up connection that initiates
before the ir ports are "in range" to preclude a file/contact transfer
connection if you are attempting to establish a tcp/ip connection.

Win2k and up have the ability to transfer files to and from a pocketpc
using ir and file explorer, but from what you post don't think this what
you want.

What happens when you attempt to connect using a dun config? (tip, look
at the advance settings such as terminal before/after and manual dialing)

Would also suggest that you "turn off" beaming at
start/settings/connections/beam for your testing and then try
start/programs/IR-Receive.
