Connection to speaker of DVD player

I have samsang tv and a sany dvd player, when i use the dvd player to watch movies i could hear the voice in the sony speakers. Is there a way where i can here the normal tv voice in the DVD player speakers to get the same home theater effect while watching cable movies or programs.

1) What model Samsung TV do you have?
2) What model Sony DVD Player do you have?
3) Does your cable subscription require a set top box or do you just connect the cable directly from the wall outlet to the HDTV?
