Connection Turntable to Bose Soundwve

I have purchased a Rega Planar 1 turntable and want to connect it to my Bose Soundwave. I have connected the turntable to a preamp which I have then plugged into the Aux socket on the Bose, but I can’t get any sound. Where am I going wrong? Do I need furthe kit or is the Bose just not compatible?

Make sure that the power supply for the phono preamp is plugged into a working AC outlet.
Did you select the aux input on the Bose?

Thank you, everything was connected correctly as far as I could see but I still couldn’t get any sound. I do wonder if the turntable was faulty as the stylus was very loose and kept falling off so maybe there was poor connection there? I have now returned the turntable and ordered an alternatbe that had a built-in preamp.
