Cool edit pro making space before a track

I have some experience with this app, but am somewhat rusty, it seems. I have two tracks, one a vocal, and the music embedding, and want to combine (mix) them. Yet, before I do this (adjust the gain levels, etc.),the vocal track has to be advanced somewhat, to come in after, say five seconds from the start of the music. What is the best way to accomplish this? Do I create empty space at the start of the vocal track? Maybe physically shift it forward until I get it to the right spot...or what? THANKS.

It would probably be easier to physically shift it forward than to create empty space at the beginning for the vocal track. Hopefully someone with experience using Cool Edit Pro will respond. The only thing I know about the program is that it is an earlier edition of what later became Adobe Audition.
