I have an old HP Pavilion DV7, the cooling fan used to spin very fast (like if it was racing) specially when gaming. Lately, the fan started to run slow even on temps above 90C. These are the things I've already done:
- Checked the BIOS for "Fan always on".
- Flashed latest BIOS.
- Roolled-back to previous versions of BIOS.
- Tried SpeedFan but it doesn't supports my system.
- Hardware reset removing the battery and pressing the power button for 15 secs.
- Raised the bottom for better airflow, which actually helped and reduced temp by 10C, but didn't solve the fan problem.
- Opened the laptop and cleaned the air vents, fan and heatsink.
- Did a Windows fresh install.
- As a last resort, yesterday I replaced the fan with a new one but same result. The old one looked in good condition.
The strange thing is that when I turn on the laptop, the fan initially spins very fast, then after the "Press F10 to enter BIOS..." message is displayed the fan slows down to a constant speed from which it will never return.
Could it be a temperature sensor? A damaged motherboard?
Sorry for this long sad story but I'm desperate and by the moment I'm unable to get another laptop/pc. My model is https/support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01631355
I appreciate your help.
