Core i5/i7 NVIDIA 1920x1200 laptop?

Hello,

Does anybody know if there is any Core i5/i7 laptop sporting NVIDIA 1920x1200 on a 15.4/15.6 inches display? I'm trying to replace my XPS M1530 with a one with the new Intel processors without loosing NVIDIA nor screen resolution.

unfortunately the GTX285 is back ordered til later this month, but if you can deal with the as fast ATi Radeon 5870 you can get one right away. Either way get the upgraded screen and boom.

Yup, I'll second that one as long as you have the budget for it. Also, take a look at some of Asus' offerings, like the G51.

I can stretch the budget but I'd rather stay under 2000. Some time ago was not that hard to find a Dell laptop like that...

Thanks a lot for such a fast reply. These are the two options for the Sager:

15.6” HD+ 16:9 LED Backlit Wide screen (1600x900) Super Clear Glare Type Screen
15.6” FHD 16:9 LED Backlit Wide screen (1920x1080) Super Clear Glare Type Screen ( + 60 )

As you can see less than 1200 on the vertical. Regarding the ATI Radeon 5870 I just hope it will be wayyyyy faster than the ATI Mobility RADEON™ HD 4670 1GB which simply sucks (not only slow but also the driver does not allow to choose non-standard resolutions like 1440x900). By the way I'm returning my Dell Studio XSP 16 (Model 1640) because of this.

1920x1080 is the widescreen mode, but if you doubt that it can do 1900x1200 (non-widescreen res here) then you should live chat with an xoticpc tech support guy before ordering.

WUXGA - 1920x1200; Wider viewing version of UXGA, good for movie viewing or spreadsheets.

Which is what the screen upgrade is.

As to the 5870 it is as fast or faster than the GTX285M.

Thanks again maverick for the info I've just spoke to a xoticpc sales rep and he told me that non of their 15.4/15.6 laptops can do 1920x1200 only 1080... If anybody out there knows a laptop like that I'd be more that happy to buy it.... If there is not such thing in the market anymore would be too crazy to build one from a barebone system?

you're right, my bad it is the 16" or above that is capable of 1920x1200 and that is all due to the way the LCD is shaped. Why do you want 1920x1200 exactly? why is 1080P full HD not good enough?

the only 15" laptop I could find in recent history that had that resolution was the ASUS M50 series. The problem is they probably won't meet your standards in the CPU/GPU department.

You might be able to fit the LCD into a barebones machine, but there is no real way to be sure that it interfaces the same.

Well, I have a Dell M1530 which has NVIDIA and can do 1920x1200 and I got used to this resolution. Also because of the nature of my work (programming) space in the vertical is very important (as we want to see as much code as possible). On top of that if you get more pixel density meaning you have smaller pixel dot which I believe leads to better picture and text representation even if you use a lower resolution. Maybe I am too picky, with the overcome of HD/bluray an so, 1080p seems to be enough and it is for seeing movies for sure but definitively not for programming, at least not for me. Curiously enough, I could not find a single mainstream player providing what I'm looking for, not anymore; and even the barebone providers (MSI, Asus, Clevo) are not manufacturing above 1080 for 15 inches. I fell stranded with my old XPS M1530, I think I'll spent from 300 to 700 to upgrade it. Only if I could find a barebone with Core i5 (the minimun to worth the time investment) with NVIDIA and 1920x1200 on 15 inches I'll have myself a good DIY project.

Unfortunately, according to samsung website, the specs for the LCD is "15.6" LED HD (1,366 x 768) 16:9 Gloss".

But thank you for suggesting it, seems to be a very nice laptop.
