So I recently upgraded to Avast Internet Security and was wondering if I could disable Windows Defender. Although Avast says everything is running, Windows tells me I have no virus protection and should re-enable Defender. In the control panel under security and virus protection, I can view installed antivirus apps, but cannot enable Avast. Does this still mean Avast is working or do I actually need both running?

P.S. I am running Windows 10 1607

If it said avast not enable. then it not working
Windows Defender will disable itself when it found another active virus protection.

avast internet security up to date? what exact version it is on?

under parameters then press windows update and security then under windows defender check if he is active made off and activate you avast .

Everything is up to date. It is currently on version 17.8.2318.

I solved the problem. I had to install the file shield component and now it is enabled under virus protection. Thanks to everyone who helped.
