Currently I'm using a two year old laptop that I've built. HP Pavilion g6 AMD A8 4500m w/ 7670M 1GB dedicated GPU. I've always been a fan of AMD APU's due to their cheaper prices and GPU combination. I though about upgrading my current laptop to an AMD A10 5750m which currently cost $89. (I can replace it myself) But I rather just purchase a new computer.

I've been looking around and I have only found a few computers that fit my need. I'm looking for something at a moderate price (500 - 650) and have found one that meets my needs. I'm looking for something that's a moderator gamer (please don't say "a gaming laptop costs atleast $800 and etc..) for somewhat new games and course work. (Battlefield4, need for speed) I'm fine with a 720p screen as I've never used one.

This has a GeForce 840m with 2GB of memory. The card isn't bad, atleast compared to what I'm switching from. On the other hand, the CPU isn't the best but will do.

Now to my main question. Would the CPU or GPU on this be upgrade-able? It's a dedicated card so I would think so, as long as it's not soldiered into the motherboard. Same with the CPU also. Are either upgrade-able and if so, what could I upgrade it with in the future? I'd like to be able to stay up to date with newer games (GTA V).

Solution
ah ok.

I have seen MSI's budget gaming laptops for as low as $750. This was a few months ago so you might be able to get a i5 dual core and a GTX 850M for only $650.
Very very very doubtful that it's chips can be replaced because anything with a ultrabook form factor has to be BGA because LGA is too big for those small form factors.

Plus, it's very expensive to upgrade a laptop part. Better to buy a new one always.

As for gaming, expect low 720P at 30fps with that kind of GPU if you play games like BF4.

Do you have to buy a laptop?

Yea I wasn't expecting 1080p anyway. I've seen some videos and it appears the 840 combo can handle BF4 on medium with a stable 30 + FPS.

I didn't think about the fact that it was an Ultrabook processor, so I might not be able to upgrade that. However the GPU I'm still worried if I can upgrade it or not. I'm able to replace the parts myself, it's just the fact that if I can upgrade it and if BIOS will accept it.

Unfortunately at this time, I have a very crappy satellite internet service provider and I can't really depend on that for anything. I use my verizon hotspot majority of the time and I tend to travel a lot, which is why I can only go with a laptop.
