CPU specs for HTC Vive

Hey all,

I'm currently running a PC that doesn't meet the minimum specs for a Vive as a result of the GPU. I'll be upgrading the GPU later in the year when purchasing the Vive, but I'm actually concerned about my CPU, which is a AMD FX - 6200 Six core processor.

AMD have published a list of CPUs ready for VR (Or at least, ready for the Oculus) at http/www.forbes.com/sites/jasonevangelho/2016/02/10/these-are-the-cpus-amd-suggests-for-building-vr-ready-pcs-including-2-unreleased-ones/#7cd3ca1b7595, but my CPU is not on the list, and is slightly lower spec.

However, the SteamVR test tool shows my CPU as coming up in Green (I fail, but again, this is my GPU which I'll be updating). While I do trust steam, the tool is just a guide, and as it's already failing for my GPU, I'm not sure it would be fully testing my CPU.

I'm cautious about the VR experience I'll get, and If I'll need to udpate my CPU. Has anyone any idea if the Vive will run smoothly with my CPU, or should I be looking for an upgrade?

The Vive and software properly designed for it are a way off yet.

I am uncertain if any current AMD CPU will do the 90Hz business well enough. At best it will be very marginal for a good experience. Likely, just OK at launch, but problematic when the 'real' games arrive.

If VR is what you want, and you plan to be an early adopter, I would suggest you upgrade to a good i5 for a start.

To be on the Forbes list for AMD requires a higher base clock than you have.
