I recently acquired a broken Dell Vostro 3700 laptop, the previous owner took it to BestBuy and they couldn't fix it. I ran chkdsk and it runs fine now. So anyway, now that I have it, I would like to upgrade it. I don't know a lot about laptops (i'm more of a desktop guy) but from what I know it can be challenging if not impossible.

It has an i3 350m that I would like to upgrade to an i7 640m. (the CPU is NOT soldered in so don't even try to tell me it is :)) 3gb of DDR3 SODIMM that i'd like to take up to 8gb. Finally, 250gb of storage that i'd like to bring up to a terabyte.

Would this be possible with this laptop? And if more info is required please ask.

Yes I know it will FIT but will it work? The socket is a 989 rPGA which supports G1 and G2, but the mobo chipset is HM57. I don't want to go through a bunch of trouble and have it not work.

check the dell site to see if there is a newer bios to what you have now & is capable of running the i7.
