Cracked my HP Pavilion Laptop Screen

I bought this about a month ago. It's under manufacturer's warranty but I'm pretty sure that does not cover accident damage. I knocked my laptop over and now it has a ton of dead pixels, one big blotch at the top and some vertical lines running down all over the screen.

It's a pretty new model, and a touchscreen, so I doubt some mom and pop PC repair store can fix it. What are my options here? Am I pretty much just stuck buying another laptop?

I wouldn't buy a new laptop right away. Try to get it fixed. I don't know where though.

When I saw this post I thought it would be easy. I have replaced a few laptop screens but never a touch screen.
I think it would be pretty easy, but I can't give a definitive answer.

That's why I hope getting it repaired may be cheaper than you think.

It has a HDMI port so you'll at least have a nice new SFF desktop until used screens start showing up on eBay.

I wouldn't bother trying to separate the digitizer from the panel and casing--just buy the whole thing already assembled complete with the hinges so it can be simply bolted in.

In hindsight that protection plan might've been a good idea. Or if you charged it on an Amex card, that does come with a 90 day Purchase Protection plan for up to $1000.

Edit: Actually another point, I don't particularly care about the TouchScreen functionality, I just don't want my screen to be all cracked. Would it doable to just replace the lcd screen and leave the busted digitizer in there with the touchscreen drivers disabled? How hard would it be for me to just replace the screen itself?

As I said, you probably have to wait until people start parting them out and listing the whole screen assembly on eBay. It's likely too expensive brand new to be worth it.

The bare 720p panels themselves usually aren't very expensive, although they are very fiddly to replace and it's easy to damage something in the process. Your digitizer might actually still be OK--it's just difficult to get it lined back up and calibrated properly, but if you don't care about that then it doesn't matter. You can try taking your screen off and apart to see if it's something you'd like to attempt, and it would still work as a mini-desktop in the meantime, but be aware that the Wifi antennae are usually in the screen so while that's gone the Wifi won't work. But ethernet still would, or a cheap USB Wifi could be added. Good luck!
