Custom PC > Viore LC32VH55 > 5.1 Surround Sound: Help

Well I built by custom PC and it works great, however, I have recently inherited a surround sound system from my father. From the PC I have an HDMI cable to my Viore. Then from the Viore I have R/W audio cables connected to the surround sound system. When I use the computer, however, Windows 7 only shows stereo as the possible configuration for my TV, and there is no option for surround sound in enhancements. Can anyone help me rectify this problem so that I may enjoy my new surround sound system?

the R/W cables from the tv are stereo only. this is why you only get stereo sound from the ht system.

can the ht system accept hdmi inputs? can it output hdmi to the tv while splitting off the sound (as an av/r does)? if so connect it up in this way.

if not, what connections does the durabrand have? you might have to use 3.5mm to rca connectors to plug into the back of the soundcard/onboard soundcard if the unit accepts rca jacks.

or... if you are lucky it accepts digital coax (orange looking rca plug) and hopefully your computer can output digital coax (orange plug). this is often called a spdif coaxial cable.

let us know (photos would be better) what connections you have.

Okay, so I bought a coax cable and attached it at the SPDIF output on the TV, and the Coaxial input on the receiver. I'm getting sound in all speakers now, but windows still only shows Stereo in configuration. Will that affect my quality at all? I also have AC3 Filter upmixing everything to 5.1 Surround.

most windows sounds including music, youtube, etc are all stere

most movies (not all) and most games (not all) have surround sound.

if you can set your speaker config to 5.1

upmixing sounds like front surround focus where it copies the front channels to the rear resulting in not a true surround sound situation.

test some 5.1 sources to confirm.

after looking at it again....

i dont see a coax spdif port on your motherboard however it does appear that you have a coax audio output on your tv (couldnt find whether its spdif or not).

so you could try going pc to tv via hdmi and from tv to sound system via coax.

what i would do however is invest in a cheap soundcard with spdif coax output and use that instead. sometimes when jumping from pc to tv to sound system windows doesnt recognize the end device properly so i prefer direct connections myself.

I do currently have it going from the PC via HDMI to the TV and from the TV to the receiver via Coaxial SPDIF. It seems like the audio itself sounds decent. However, a few of my speakers are less quiet than their mirrored counterparts. Sorry for the trouble.
