cutting cable tv

Can someone please explain to me what I need to cut down my cable bill while still getting the live TV I want. I have the tv on almost all the time, mostly the cable news channels and weather center as back ground noise. (I'm weird). So how do I get CNN, FOX, BBC NEWS and the Weather Channel? Do I need Roku? Amazon fire? I saw that Hulu has some live tv. We usually watch TNT, USA, SYFY, Science Channel, FXX, FX, BBC America, Bloomberg, AMC, History Channel and some of the National Geo channels. I'm wondering if I want some of those if I should keep my first tier cable? What about DVR? What do I need if I find I can't live without that? From what I've read I know I'll need an HD antenna.

I use the Roku 2 as my set-top-box.

Through the Roku, I pay for HBO Now, Sling TV, and Netflix.

Sling TV is a live TV service and I have loved it for the nearly 2 years I've had it. https/www.sling.com/ Starting @ $20/month.

As far as I know, Sling doesn't offer a DVR feature, but they do have On-Demand on most of their channels.

Netflix and Amazon Prime was my solution. I keep something in the background all the time too. for me it is news sites directly on my second screen.
Youtube is getting some pretty good channels, I watched a marathon of hot ones yesterday.
with higher speed internet, Netflix and Amazon prime I spend far less than even basic internet and first tier tv which is mostly ads.

been internet only for six years. Cable TV pay through the nose for the channels you want, all 12 of them but you have to pay for all 540 other channels you do not ever watch.

Oh man thanks for both of your replies. I have a starting point finally. We have Netflix and Crunchyroll which we watch through my PS3. Roku and Amazon Fire will stream directly to my tv right? What other cords will I need to watch tv on my tv? Another ethernet cable? I like sitting on my couch to watch tv. My son lives with me and we watch a lot of shows together. I have an LG 32" LCD tv. I just finished upgrading my pc to where I want it and could stream on that, but it's not ideal for 2 people watching from the pc desk. Sling tv looks pretty promising for what I'm looking for.

I also have three Roku's. Love the Roku. they have the wireless sticks that just plug into the USB and the HDMI and your done. roku has many free ad supported channels, and support Amazon, Netflix, Crunchyroll and many other streaming sites.

OTA Antenna- $17+ initial cost will get you Local Channels and others depending on your location

Sling Blue $25 a month will get you NatGeo and a lot of the same channels above.

Netlfix- Has lots of its own content

Amazon Prime- Also has lots of it's own content and streams other content.
