Dear Experts,

I am looking into acquiring a pair of Headphones along the line of Beyerdynamic DT990 PRO, AKG K 701. Sennheiser HD 598 (UPDATE: Ordered Beyer DT990 Pro)

I use a Z77 Sabertooth Motherboard and have only the inbuilt audio card to serve me.

If understood correctly, these high end devices require a USB amp or DAC or an internal sound card to drive them properly. or else sound quality is particularly poor.

Can you please tell me which route would be best to go down.

Ideally I want to spend around 50 Sterling (€70/$77). If I must, I will go to 100 (€140/$155)

I have a pair of Beyerdynamic DT990 PRO and use them with a FiiO Olympus E10k USB DAC and they work perfectly. It was a nice improvement over my integrated sound card and it's not that expensive.

These are solid USB Dacs.

Buuuut, every audiophile has always told me you have to get dac that sits on your desk with vacuum tubes coming out the top if you want the best quality. Something like this;

I'm not sure what the best DAC available is or how much money you'll end up spending if you want it, but you probably won't be able to tell much of a difference moving up from the above unless you do a lot of professional studio work.

Everything I've looked at has been at least $100, but you can buy DIY kits and solder them together for cheaper if you're savvy enough.
