Are these sets relatively problem free? My bro has one, and one year and a day
the display stays off. Everything looks like power is on, but no video is
displayed. He did not get extended warranty and is unhappy for the holidays.
Anyone have any suggestions, or comments on this model? thanks!

Here are some suggestions if you have not already tried them.
1) Check all the cables. Make sure they are tight. (I bumped one with
a vacuum one time and I thought Direct TV was at fault - but that's another
story)
2) Are you on the right video input? Most of these boxes have 3 or 4
inputs to select from.

Rick, all connections are fine, pressing the video input button does not even
show anything on the display. Unfortunately, I think the power supply to the
plasma is shot. Checking out the web for other comments on this set are not
good. Poor/no repair support from Daewoo.

About two or three years ago, a major manufacture of electrolytic
capacitors had a very bad run. These caps ended up in daewoo sets along
with other manufactures. Daewoo was non-responsive in repairing these
units. I have two of them in the garage.

I can only hope that ends their entry and exit into the US market.

Did you repair the 2 units in the garage? If so what caps do you suggest get
replaced? I am very handy with electronics, so it will not be a problem. thanks

There were too many of them that had the tops billowed out. I would simply
do a re-cap of the whole deflection. You will not even need a manual for
that
