I had asked about casual gaming, but decided I should spend a little more money. I would like to be able to do some FPS, like 7 Days to Die which I play frequently on my gaming desktop. But would like to be able to play any current game. I just don't where the most bang for the buck 7th Gen vs 8th Gen.Or I;m open to any suggestions around that price range. I do like drive space, I have a lot of Steam games. I would so appreciate any help.

On my original post this was suggested.

-Acer Swift 3, 8th Gen Intel Core i5-8250U, NVIDIA GeForce MX150, 14" Full HD, 8GB LPDDR3, 256GB SSD, SF314-52G-55WQ for $699.99

Pros: price, 8th gen Cons: not sure how it would do with FPS's and it's an i5 , only an 14 inch monitor (note: there is an i7 version for $899.99

- ASUS VivoBook Pro Thin & Light Laptop, 17" Full HD , Intel i7-8550U Processor, 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD + 1TB HDD, NVIDIA Gaming GeForce GTX 1050,Backlit Keyboard, Windows 10, Star Gray, N705UD-EH76 for $1062

Pros: 16 GB of Ram, Better NVIDIA, 8th Gen, 17 inch monitor, 2 drives Cons: price

Pros: 2 drives, 16 gb ram, best Nvidia in the bunch Cons: 15 inch monitor compared to the Asus, i7

Personally I would get the Dell, the step up from a 1050 to 1060 is huge and although it has an older CPU (only slightly less powerful) that will be far less important for the gaming life of the laptop then the GPU which is waaaay better.

I wasn't sure, I've read so many articles on how the 8th Gen is such a jump from 7th Gen, but I didn't know how much that played into games and art applications (Photoshop, 3d modeling)

If gaming and other gpu heavy tasks like 3d modeling are what you need then the dell. If other more cpu intensive tasks like photos then the 8th gen would be better.

It's more on what your primary application will be. If any of them have a thunderbolt port then you could always get a external gpu down the line.
