Hey guys,

Before I go out and buy an amp for my laptop speaker system I figured I'd ask someone who knows more than I do, because I dont know much when it comes to amps. For the past while I have been searching through laptop/headphone amps and I think the Audioengine N22 Amplifier is the best for me. A) it falls within my budget (around $150) and B) the reviews I have found are pretty decent. I plan on hooking this up with a Audioengine P4 set of speakers with an Audipengine S8 woofer. My question is would the amplifier have any effect if I threw the woofer into the set? And would it improve sound quality?

Thanks

Amplifiers, per se, do not (can not and should not) increase sound quality. Their job is to amplify a small signal to drive your speakers. The N22 is capable of 22W per channel which is sufficient for the P4B speaker set. The S8 is a powered subwoofer with "pass-thru" RCA jacks. Utilizing the N22 + P4B together will provide a satisfactory listening experience. Adding the S8 will give your lower (bass) frequencies that extra kick that many listeners enjoy.

Desktop speakers are pretty much large heaphones. Tons of reviews that I saw had amps hooked up to desktop speakers. But what I really want to know is if the amp would increase sound quality. Please correct me if I am wrong because I dont know much about this stuff.
