Dell E1505 Turns on, then screen shuts off.

I got a Dell Inspiron E1505 off eBay a couple of days ago.The laptop came with the charger and some user guides and installation dvds. It was pre-installed with Windows XP. The computer boots up fine, but the screen shuts off after about 5 seconds. I thought it was a dust problem, so I cleaned out the laptop of any dust and crap ( There was a lot! ). After I put the computer back together, it did the same exact thing. I tried to connect it to an external monitor, but it just won't work. It also does it when I take the hard drive out. I realized that if you close the laptop lid and open it back up, the screen will work for another 5 seconds. Any ideas of what it could be?

I have found the solution: the LCD screen is damaged. I had another computer which was the same model number and put it's screen on the broken laptop. Sure enough, it worked like a charm. After that, I tested the LCD inverter on the other laptop with the eBay laptop screen and it worked. Now I will get a new LCD screen inverter for $5 on eBay. I hoped somebody found this helpful.
