Dell Inspiron 15z backlight issue

I have a Dell Inspiron 15z (5523). My son was ill and was sick on my laptop. All is ok except the screen. The backlight is no longer working. I can see a very faint image on the screen and works fine with an external montor. Touch screen also works fine. Does anyone know what the issue is, and what part needs replacing. I presume I am going to have to take it somewhere but wanted to try and understand if this is going to be cheap or expensive to repair.

It needs a new backlight fitting behind the screen, probably one of the most common screen-related repair jobs carried out both at home and in a repair shop. I have no idea how much it will cost. I've never had it done, nor have I ever bought a backlight unit.

But from the info you provided there's no doubt it's the backlight that's blown.
