I own a Dell Inspiron 15 3537, and whenever I shut it down or put it to sleep it will randomly go to a black screen but the system will remain on. The power light will stay on, along with the internet connection light. No key works, and I'm forced to hold the power button until the system turns off.

This problem started when I installed a PNY CS1111 120GB SSD, as the stock hard drive broke.

  • I have tried checking for problems with powercfg.
I've tried updating drivers (GPU, Storage, etc)
    I've tried installing OEM drivers.
    I've tried Intel RST drivers.
    I have AHCI enabled.
    I've tried disabling Hibernate.
    I've tried reinstalling Windows.
I've made sure that Windows detects it as an SSD.
I've changed countless power settings including USB Selective Suspend.
I've checked S.M.A.R.T. data of the SSD, and it is at full health.
I've reset all of the settings in UEFI.
BIOS is updated to the latest version.
I have all of the Windows updates, and a legitimate copy of Windows.
There is nothing in Log Viewer except for the critical error of a forced shutdown, and this:
Code:
The driver \Driver\WudfRd failed to load for the device SWD\WPDBUSENUM\_??_USBSTOR#Disk&Ven_REALSIL&Prod_RTSUERLUN0&Rev_1.00#0000#{53f56307-b6bf-11d0-94f2-00a0c91efb8b}.
However, that error is not consistent, it just happens to be there this time.

Here is my powercfg energy report: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B1me55IaE9c2ZllwRklmVlVCbVk/view?usp=sharing
I can't make anything of it though.

Specs:
CPU: Intel i5 4200U
GPU: Intel HD 4400
OS: Windows 10 Home 64bit
Mainboard: Dell 03JPPR
Chipset: Haswell-ULT
RAM: 6GB DDR3L 1x4GB + 1x2GB

My warranty is expired for the computer, but there is a warranty on the SSD. Their website had nothing about this problem.

Hi,

Here's some troubleshooting steps that might do the trick.
http://www.tomsitpro.com/articles/windows-8.1-sleep-hibernation-settings,2-737-2.html

- Power Button needs to be set as "Shut Down" instead of Hibernate or Sleep
- Remove all the checks under Shutdown settings for Sleep, and Hibernate
- In Power Options make sure that under Hard Disk set it to never or 0
- Under Sleep make sure that Allow hybrid sleep, Hibernate after are all set to never or 0
- Then try to shut it down again.

I just shut down the computer about 20 times now, no error. Strange because I've tried changing all of these settings before, but probably not all at once. With an SSD, Sleep can be a bit redundant, so the loss isn't a problem. I'll report back tomorrow if the problem occurs again while at work, but it seems to be fixed.

Thanks.
